Pellets from the USA

To achieve CO2 reduction targets in Germany and in Europe as a whole, it will be essential to extract energy from biomass. The European wood market, however, is not enough to cover the growing need for raw materials in this rapidly growing segment on its own. That’s why, in southern Georgia, in the USA, we operate one of the world’s largest green wood pelletising plants.

Every year, the Waycross pellet plant produces 700,000 metric tons of wood pellets that are shipped from the port in Savannah for use in Europe, mainly in existing hard coal-fired power stations. Replacing hard coal with biomass results in significant CO2 savings.
