Wind turbines in an offshore wind farm in the open sea

innogy’s lighthouse project off the Welsh coast is called Gwynt y Môr

With an installed capacity of 576 megawatts Gwynt y Môr is among the largest commercial offshore wind farms worldwide. A total of 160 wind turbines produce enough electricity to supply approximately 400,000 households annually with renewable energy . innogy operates Gwynt y Môr wind farm with its partners Stadtwerke München, Siemens and UK Green Investment bank.

Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm key figures

Gwynt y Môr wind farm stretches across approximately 80 square kilometres. The 160 Siemens turbines are approximately 150 metres high and have a capacity of 3.6 megawatts each. The 160 monopile steel foundations, some of which weigh up to 700 tonnes, were placed in water up to 28 metres deep using special installation vessels. In addition two large offshore transformation stations with a weight of 271 tonnes each were installed and approximately 134 kilometres of onshore cable were laid.
